Jennifer Ann Agutter O.B.E. (born 20 December 1952, Taunton, Somerset, England) is a British-born Hollywood actress.
Career
Having being active from 1964, Agutter has appeared in a very large number of films and across a wide range of genres. She rose to prominence in the 1968 BBC television adaptation of The Railway Children, and the subsequent 1970 film version.
In later years, Agutter became a mainstay in the genres of science fiction and horror; for example Logan's Run (1976) and An American Werewolf in London (1981).
More recently, Agutter has appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including The Avengers (2012) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) as the British delegate of the World Security Council.
Red Dwarf
Jenny Agutter appeared in Red Dwarf as Professor Mamet in the Series VI episode "Psirens" (1993). Although it was a fairly brief appearance - and it was only as a Psiren-induced hallucination - it was a pivotal one nonetheless, not only for the plot of the episode, but also as Mamet is the creator of Kryten and other mechanoids. Mamet has subsequently been mentioned numerous times since in this context.
Trivia
- Jenny Agutter has appeared in the BBC ratings hit Call the Midwife along with Helen George. Helen George portrayed the villain Aniter, an avatar of the evil M-Corp, in the Series XII episode of the same name.
