The planet Mars
Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun, or Sol, the star in Earth's Solar System. Things or people from Mars are referred to as "Martian". By the late 22nd century, Mars had been extensively colonised, and possibly terraformed, by the Space Corps.
Mars was the origin of Martian power packs, which unlike Ouroboros batteries, were notoriously unreliable. One such power pack was used in Kryten's Psi-Scan, and he notably struggled with it whilst trying to scan Dr. Hildegard Lanstrom's base. Kryten still used it, since he had an affinity for cheap, budget or economy models. ("Quarantine", Series V)
Mars had two moons, Phobos and Deimos. Captain Hollister of Red Dwarf spent some time on Phobos in his younger years.
Mars was home to the wealthy. It was the chicest, most exclusive world in the planetary system, handy for commuting to other planets, yet far enough away from the riff-raff to be ideal for the mega-rich. (Better Than Life)
In the Grant Naylor novel Better Than Life, Mars is described as extremely wealthy. "Something had to be done. Firing the garbage willy-nilly off into space was cost-prohibitive. So the Inter-Planetary Commission for Waste Disposal conducted a series of feasibility studies, and they concluded that one of the nine planets of the solar system had to be given over to waste." ... "Mars was the safest of all [from becoming the waste planet], because it was home to the wealthy. It was the chicest, most exclusive world in the planetary system, handy for commuting to other planets, yet far enough away from the riff-raff to be ideal for the mega-rich."
